To Defy the Stars Drops First Trailer With Ao Ruipeng and Zhang Miaoyi
Tencent Video's xianxia romance To Defy the Stars shares its first trailer, pairing Ao Ruipeng's young demon lord with Zhang Miaoyi's unlucky sect leader.
01The First Trailer Is Out
Tencent Video released the first trailer for To Defy the Stars on its official YouTube channel on October 29. The fantasy romance stars Ao Ruipeng and Zhang Miaoyi, and the platform points overseas viewers to WeTV. No premiere date has been announced so far.
02A Demon Lord and an Unlucky Master
The official synopsis sets up an unusual pairing. Ao Ruipeng plays Wei Jie, a young demon lord, and Zhang Miaoyi plays Cui Xiaoxiao, a sect leader born under a fate of ten misfortunes who takes him in as her disciple. Their meeting happens after a trip back two hundred years in time, which the synopsis describes as the right people meeting in the wrong era. From there the two keep tricking and rescuing each other, slowly fall for one another, and finally team up to expose a plot by the gods and change their fate to protect the world.
03Genre and Tone
Tencent's tags place the series in the xianxia fantasy and costume romance genres and mark it as an adaptation of an online novel. The trailer title itself sums up the promise of the show: the two leads joining hands to rewrite destiny.
